Zach’s Milestones

June 1, 2017 – Zach begins radiation treatment.  He is scheduled to undergo treatment 5 times/week for 6 weeks.  We’re all praying that treatment goes well.Radiation 1

May 31, 2017 – As Jaime and Dan take time off work to be with Zach and family, it will present a substantial financial burden on the family.  To assist, a gofundme page has been created.  It can accessed by clicking on the following link:  Making memories with Zach. We appreciate any and all assistance, and thank you immensely for your incredible kindness.

May 24, 2017 – Met with the Oncology team and made Zach’s mask for radiation treatment which should begin early next week.  Today’s CT scan shows that the tumor (currently the size of a small mandarin) may be a little smaller than originally thought, which is promising.  Zach is feeling pretty good, but seems a little more “hangry” lately (most likely as a result of the steroids).  He asked for a “Baconator” this morning of all things.  Hope is after the first week or so, the steroid dosage can be reduced.

May 20, 2017 – Treatment seems to be providing reasonable relief, and Zach gets DISCHARGED from the hospital.  A welcome blessing.

May 19, 2017 – Zach is diagnosed with a Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG).  A brain tumor found at the base (brainstem) of the brain. Unfortunately, the tumor is inoperable and is an aggressive form of cancer.  He is prescribed dexamethasone (steroids) medication to help relieve the swelling and discomfort caused by the tumor.  X-Ray Radiation Treatment (XRT) seems the only reasonable treatment at this time.  Thank you to all the staff at the U of A hospital, and the Stollery Children’s hospital.  Especially to Stephanie – the amazing miracle worker!

  1. Zach got a sorta “baconator” from Wendy’s. I couldn’t bring myself to get him the actual baconator. That thing is huge! He had a bacon deluxe minus all the toppings he doesn’t like. He liked it. He then asked if he could have a hot dog. Lol. He was very tired this morning but is currently enjoying making Lego. He got a visit from one of his bus driver’s– Melissa. She is extremely sweet and brought him some minecraft Lego. He loves it! Thanks Melissa!
